About Alice

Beauty never gets old. Artists have responded to the natural world for hundreds of years, and the public continues to love the “plein aire” Impressionists from the nineteenth century.

“Plein aire” painting means “to paint outdoors” and is very much flourishing today.  Although I am new to plein aire landscape painting, I find that its practice is both rigorous and inspiring at the same time. Western Pennsylvania landscapes pictured on this website were begun outdoors but finished in the studio. Other landscapes, florals, and cityscapes were painted from photographs.

My professional experience has focused on the arts and arts education. I have been an exhibiting professional artist, museum educator, arts administrator, and teacher. I am past president of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and a member of the Pittsburgh Society of Artists.  My education includes an MS.Ed. in Museum Leadership from Bank Street College of Education, New York City; a BFA in Painting from Seton Hill College; and a BA in Speech and English from Westminster College. I completed a Professional Certificate in Floral Design from Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden. I have been a volunteer Docent with the Carnegie Museum of Art for the past 15 years.
